What is a VIN Number & Why is it Important?
The VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, is a 17-character identification serial number of an automobile. This VIN consists of digital and alphabetical characters.
The VIN was legalized and standardized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 1981.
Before 1981, automobiles had VINs from 11 to 17 characters. With our VIN decoder service, you can easily decode model year, engine type, year of manufacture, and place of production.
Please note that our decoder will only provide data for vehicles with a 17-character VIN.
